Red Sea failure question

I’m very curious about a CADE leak thread. I seen 2 broken sumps from delivery that leaks, but I have never seen a DT leak. Please link

I can’t find the others I came across a couple years ago, but this is a thread for selling a warranty replacement (doesn’t say why there’s a replacement in the thread, but it’s typically usually for a leak - but I’m only guessing here).

Not saying they’re bad tanks - my only point is that no tank is invincible from leaks. There are even tanks (I can post a YouTube right now) like CDA which is a custom trusted builders that had a couple tanks leak.

The only tank that seem to have a widespread issue is the G1 Red Sea and the a couple of the Marineland models from a decade ago.

I have a g2 rs 170. It's only 4 months old. If it leaks I will be able to replace the 20+ year old carpet it's on, lol. That's not really funny but it's reality.
The gate valve is a joke, lol. I just open it all the way and use a ball valve on the return.
The seam protectors should be on all tanks, imo. They protect the silicone from the scraper.
I have 3 IM tanks and really just wanted the rs, bad press and all.
Time will tell I guess!
I don't think I would buy a large rs though.

I have a reefer 650 from 2018. I had issues with stands but knock on wood the tank held up.

Plan is to set it back up in the basement at some point here. I will add a center or euro brace just to be super safe. Since this is a G1 is it really that risky even with proactive reinforcement? It’s a beautiful tank I’d hate to waste.

Yeah even with reinforcement it’s just a time bomb. Maybe the eurobracing and supporting the front panel and not leave it hanging help save it though.

Thanks. Good food for thought. I wasn't really paying attention to things online over the past few years during my semi-break from the hobby. I'm glad I trusted my instincts and bailed on the tank. Honestly I got to a point where I didn't want to work on it because crawling under a 2k chunk of glass with a wonky stand holding it up felt like final destination.

Case in point about black silicone period. Just posted today (no thread about the tank leaking posted, many tanks that have leaked are only known to locals and not posted on a world wide forum).

CDA, a top reputable custom tank builder in America had a tank leak. It’s rare, but any tank by any builder can leak. They use the highest quality black silicone, but imperfections when inspecting the silicone are harder to see compared to clear silicone.

I didn't start aggregating red sea breaks till there was 20. I've read of 150 examples in two years approx including international forums discussing it. Agreed all makes have breaks.

Who's the worst in the history of reefing though, laughing stock levels

It's not the breaks it's how red sea treated customers early on. The most opposite way buyers could ever imagine is how they treated people direly sad

All the examples of willing and generous help a little after warranty period are after the ball got rolling. I have the times on file they were plain mean

So that means when they fix the issue, you're still trusting bad people who's fruit reveals during the hard times

I have at least 3 CDA breaks that have advertised to the internet they’ve had one. I’ve come across about 10 waterbox, a handful IM, etc.

This isn’t your thread you like to report on Red Sea, this was a post to answer the OP’s questions and having the understanding that outside of the G1 and Marineland issues, all other tanks can leak and are about similar in failure rates. No glass tank is invincible to it.
