Red_Beard's 75 Tank Build

Sand in, leveled and wet.
I'll need a new heater, all i could find was a 50watt. I'd have the light on too but have too make some brackets, they are printing currently.
I used 15 gallons from my 75, so it should be pretty close when it's time to move stuff. Also did a 40 gallon wc in my tank too.

I see your tools are the right color. Good job!

I am going to have to check those out, thank you!

You just say the word! I have 6 in an acclimation box just chillin right now.
Wish we were closer I could trade some frags for one of them. I been meaning to set up a nem/clownfish tank plumbed into my system down by the sump! Im not a HUGE nem guy though, so everytime I see the prices i change my mind 😂

That would be awesome, i need more locals to swap with. So far, i have 0. Lol. I mean, you could always move out here 😆

To be fair, my wife's mentioned moving out of state a few times. If your profiles right, I'm sorry to say Utah was never on the list of places. We were looking at 😅 not that we have been terribly set on anywhere.

In automotive design:

You can only pick two…

In mechanical engineering:

— strong

I’ve spent YEARS trying (unsuccessfully) to find exceptions to these rules!

Quit stalking me. Weirdo.

HAHA! This tank only cost $70, I noticed it had a scratch on the 'front' and the only other one they had, the silicon was separating already, so they discounted it another $30 and i just stuck it on the stand oriented such that the scratch wont ever be seen :) The stand cost $20 in 2x4s, as I already had the 3/4 ply from an offcut of a different project, and all the other parts were already just sitting around. So all in all I am only into this $130... so far.

Also, in my haste, I made a super rookie mistake. Didn't rinse the sand :/ I was hoping it would settle out overnight, but with no mechanical filtration, i was very sorely mistaken. So, before church, i hooked up one of my old canisters (which, bonus, has an inline 200W heater!) stuffed with polyfil. It is starting to finally clear up. I also got all the light mounting brackets printed up and put together. I think i am going to adjust the offset on one side or the other because it isn't sitting quite level. Missed it by thiiiiiiis much.

Oh yeah, while we are waiting for that tank to clear up so i can move the nems/clowns, I started messing around with that poly pro filament. So far, I think i really like it and am probably going to print a lot of reef stuff out of it in the future. Bed adhesion was definitely an issue. I just packing taped my glass bed, but found that cleaning the tape with alcohol and running it at 80 C has really helped a ton there. That and adding a brim to everything. Still printing some calibration parts though to make sure i have everything dialed in before starting on production parts.

Updates, some good, some not great.

Alice's 35 tank is looking great, super clear water, the nems are fluffy again, and the clowns have settled back in like champs.

My stirrer prints, the small stuff, turned out great!
The big one, did not. It failed hard at about 13 hours. Tape works great, for small stuff. For big stuff, it warps hard enough that it will peel the tape off the print bed. That, caused it to push up against the nozzle hard enough to plug it up and cause problems :/

Anyhow. I ordered some magigoo glue specifically designed for printing pp, i am too cheap to buy a whole new bed ($50) just for this. Also, I have officially crossed the threshold where it would have been cheaper to have purchased one. BUT, now i can reproduce it for much less at least.

The "PP pen" (Yes, that is what the box says too. polypro magigoo print bed glue) i ordered showed up, and some other fun news... I convinced my boss that we need a 3d printer at the office to print "brackets" 🤔 (also he is a huge nerd like me and wanted one too) so he ordered a P2S LOL. It will be here tomorrow. Guess i know what i will be doing for lunch hour!

Who doesnt need a good PP pen! 😂 my pastors a big nerd and wants to setup a tech lab at the church for the kids to learn tech stuff and put in a couple 3d printers. I'll be set then. He'll nerd up the kids and can have them make fish stuff for me 😂

Heck yeah, that is a solid win win! Next, you will have to get learned up on 3d modeling so you can help them design stuff too (and so can you for your reef!)

I've made a thing or two in the past, but havent had much luck as far as printing it goes. Mainly because I dont have a printer haha. I ought to get one someday... seems to be a very valuable tool to have!
