Looks really good! Hope it works well.Installificated. I think i am going to move it to the other chamber with my rock rubble. Eventually. Had to extend the skimmer shelf a bit and im worried now i am impeding flow through the skimmer. I also took the opportunity to clean it when i pulled it out. Sparkle sparkle!

(Hey, i dont judge you by your sump...)
Next step, figure out how much of what i want to dose. I left AFR on my x1 for now, but when this gets dialed i am going to migrate it to the other head of my red sea 2 head and use the x1 for ammonium/urea
Maybe one day get 2 more and dose trace a and k. For now those are manual. May stay that way... who knows.
Thanks for the tip! A little off with 600ml/day could be 10-20mlLooks really good! Hope it works well.
By the way, I have a RS Doser as well for about 8 months now (4 head). Hasn't skipped a beat. The only thing you want to make sure you do is calibrate and re-calibrate every few months. I just did a recalibration and 3 heads were spot on and one was way off. Not dosing enough. Just giving you a heads up.
No sump judgment from me. But those hinges. Holy moly!Installificated. I think i am going to move it to the other chamber with my rock rubble. Eventually. Good luck, Beard! Im interested in how this goes as well. It's cool that you're documenting it all.Ok, starting stats:
Daily AFR: 50ml
Daily Kalk: 600ml
Starting alk: 6.5dkH
Starting cal: 410ppm
Lets see how this goes, fungers crossed i dont nuke it...
C'mon Chris....No sump judgment from me. But those hinges. Holy moly!
He's not wrong lol. I need to replace them. I went with nice blum ones and haven't wanted to pay up again. I was going to try hitting them with clear paint this time.C'mon Chris....

Cry once and just get stainless onesHe's not wrong lol. I need to replace them. I went with nice blum ones and haven't wanted to pay up again. I was going to try hitting them with clear paint this time.
Specifically, “marine grade”; AKA grade 316 (imperial), or grade A4 (metric)… it will look brand new in a decade’s time!stainless ones
Thank you for the tip! I am well aquainted with 316 and galling, and work hardening etc. Its that danged high nickel content. One time locking those up is a great teacher of what it can do.Specifically, “marine grade”; AKA grade 316 (imperial), or grade A4 (metric)… it will look brand new in a decade’s time!
Avoid grade 304 stainless steel (AKA 18-8, or A2)… it will still tea stain and spot rust over time…
Pro tip? always use anti-seize on stainless steel fasteners to prevent galling/cold welding… here’s a recent, an very extreme example of just that on a 5/8” diameter bolt/nut, assembled dry via impact driver by a helper, instantly cold welded before even hitting the nylon…

Glad it’s working well.Kalk results: 2 days of 600ml, and i am sittling at 7.7 dkH. I turned it down to 400ml/day. So far, so good though, stuff is looking really good(except the glass. Its gross)
Mitigating circumstances... i trimmed up my forestfire. A lot. But, now when i am in a mental space to enjoy doing so, i have tons of space to mount my new frags :)
I did. I try not to get too much above 8. If i shoot for 7.5-8, i have a lot of wiggle room on either side before i run into trouble.Glad it’s working well.
Did you turn it down due to dKH at 7.7?
That is why I aim for around 8.5...right in the sweet spot IMO!I did. I try not to get too much above 8. If i shoot for 7.5-8, i have a lot of wiggle room on either side before i run into trouble.
So you shoot for stability at around NSW on you dKH. Makes sense.I did. I try not to get too much above 8. If i shoot for 7.5-8, i have a lot of wiggle room on either side before i run into trouble.
Nature grows acros pretty good, figured it must be doing something right lol. And that is about where my salt mix mixes to, so i can do massive waterchanges if i have to without kh shocking stuff, should the need arise. So you shoot for stability at around NSW on you dKH. Makes sense.
I’ve had mine steady at 8 for almost 6 months now and recently have slowly moved it to 9 to help boost my ph. So far so good, but keeping an eye to see how everything reacts.
I almost spit out my coffee when I saw you say, "When I am in a mental space to enjoy doing so." Are you ever in a mental space to enjoy anything? I mean, you could have just said, "Which will never happen."Kalk results: 2 days of 600ml, and i am sittling at 7.7 dkH. I turned it down to 400ml/day.
