Hello R2R!

I hope everyone is doing well.

My Reef Octopus return pumped just failed on Thursday and i'm currently using a sicce pump to get some water movement but tank is not looking well.

The Reef Octopus pump failure looks like an overheating issue like several owners have reported on the reef octopus and waveline pumps. It would work for a few minutes then stops, I would need to leave it unplugged for 30mins - 1 hour for it to work again, but only for a few minutes. I've tried soaking it in water & vinegar but still no luck.

It sucks that it failed after 2.5 years, just six months out of warranty. Is it common for most aquarium products to fail after two years? hence the usual 2-year warranty?

Contacted coral vue, and they've offered repair at cost or discount towards a new pump.

I need a DC controllable pump because my tank overflow is unique and flows slowly at first then picks up speed. With a controllable pump I can start of at a low speed and slow ramp it up over a course of a few minutes.

I'm thinking about the Reef Octopus VarioS-6 but worry that it might break after the 2-year warranty expires.

Please suggest a good controllable pump (other than the Abyzz).

Thanks!
