I acquired about 40lb of really nice reef rock from someone who disclosed to me that it has “pests” but did not elaborate. It was still damp when I acquired it. I’m not really concerned with keeping the rock “live” so much as ensuring that all the pests die off. Will drying out the rock thoroughly followed by an extended fresh water soak kill most pests? My main concerns are fish parasites and nudibranch eggs. I will not heat treat the rock due to the known risks involved with palytoxins.

If you are not concerned with it being live, I would bleach it for a week.
Might as well kill any possibility of pest
