ok so i got my refugium set up in the second back chamber of my tank and i was wondering if anyone knows a good material that will let water run through it but not let my cheato flow into the next chamber

If the cheato is a nice clump, egg crate works great. You could also use cross stitch mesh, but it will clog easily.

Try your local Michael's, they have semi-rigid plastic mesh panels. I think they're slightly larger than a sheet of paper? Here's a pic of the material that was left over after making a DIY media basket.

When I had my biocube, I cut a piece of foam that lets water flow but catches cheeto strands between the middle section and the return pump section.

Aquamesh Blue...I got it from BRS...but you can get it on Amazon; it is sturdy...
