here is the deal.

if i went out and bought an AGA 40 breeder tank, would it be okay to remove the top trim, sand the glass where the trim was (so its smoother) and then use silicone small glass triangles to each top corner? i searched for hours, and so far, ive gotten no information.

a 40 breeder is not center braced, so i dont know how much actual support the trim gives it. but i was thinking if i removed the trim, and used small triangles at the corners, it would look a lot cleaner. (no ugly blackness at the top).

i planned on leaving the bottom trim.

any thoughts on this?

I would say unless you are a big risk taker don't do it. If you want to take off the rim, I would eurobrace it with some glass.

I would leave it be, but like wane ianiwane said, if you want to take a risk you would defenatly want to eurobrace it somehow.

It would be safer IMO to have a custom built 40 with thicker glass for this endeavor

It may only do a little but it does help. I took a level to the front of my 40 breeder with it full of water and it didn't flush up. I did the same thing to the same tank without water and it set flush. The front bows a little even with the molding. So if you remove it. I would say you would have to add a eurobrace. If you do it post pics. I would like to see what the glass looks like under the molding.

Its never a good idea to try shortcuts in this hobby. In the end those shortcuts will end up costing you a lot.
