So it’s been 3 months since I’ve dosed Cupermine in my 210 gallon. I am still reading 0.04 on my Hannah checker. My question is do I have to keep stirring the sand every time I do a water change ? Does the sand hold the copper and not release it unless I turn it over?

If you put copper in a tank with sand and rocks, you’re never gonna get it out of there.

I’d suggest running Cuprisorb or Poly Filter for at least 3-4 weeks. Other than large scale water changes, it’s the best way to remove copper. Cuprisorb claims that it will extract copper that is bound up in rock and sand.

Hanna Checkers aren’t accurate for low levels of copper in reef tanks. It will show false positives.

Use seachem cuprisorb and poly filters for several weeks, then use ICP to be positive it’s out.

I treated my display tank (with rocks) with copper. I used the medias above and I’ve done countless ICP throughout the year, and copper has never been detectable.

Also, copper is a needed trace element for all life, so you probably don’t want to get it all out anyway.

The above method works. Other people got copper out the same way. I have many corals, inverts, and clams.

You can also replace the sand and rocks if you don’t want to use media and ICP. It’s cheaper and quicker.
