Replacement glass for viper light

I splashed water on my viper lights glass and it broke in nice little pieces. Can I replace it with glass from HD or Lowes or is their a specific type I need?

I couldnt find much out there but the JBJ website has it for sale for $23...no picture or anything so you might wanna call first before you buy it...Heres the link Replacement Glass K-2 Viper Light

Don't use regular glass. Chances are it has some type of UV filter to prevent burning your corals

Yeah, when it broke it was in small pieces like a pyrex dish not shards like regular glass so i figured it was a special type of glass.

I had mine break twice and now I just don't use it. JUNker...

Lol. Nothing like digging chunks of glass out of your tank. I thought about not replacing it. Did you have to make any adjustments to the height or light cycle? It seems the light is a bit more intense since there is no glass.

Ni I did replace them, but after the last time I just replaced the whole unit!

would plexiglass work with a window tint of some sort that might block out uv rays? what keeps uv rays from killing corals in the ocean from the sun.

that glass would need to be tempered!
honestly i would try the glass from a halogen light. you might be able to find one at HD or lowes.

Plexiglass would melt I would think.

I honestly has my light like 20" off the water in the same spot for a long time and it broke. I think the MH lamp is just to close to the glass. Bad design IMO.
