years ago, when i started, i bought a 65 gallon tank, and a canister filter to go along with it. i decided to go small first, and went with a 20 gallon long tank, but since i had the canister, it is what i have used for filtration.
since then, ive had to split the tank because of a pair of clownfish not getting along, so the partition has to stay for right now. what i dont like is that, one end of the tank has the inlet, and the other has the outlet. the one side is dirtier than the other because of it. to combat it, ive bought two tidal 55 hob filters (one for each side). i know its a little overkill, but got them in case i needed them for something else in the future.
as of last night, i decided to put one of them on because i had room without removing anything. however, the other side doesnt have room unless i remove the canister filtration, which i would love to do, but being new filters, they dont have the bioload that the canister does, obviously. with 10+ pounds of rock that have been in the system since its start, which has been 3-4 years, do you think that removing the cannister will create an overload on the bioload within the tank itself, since i would be removing bioload that is there from the cannister?
i suspect it should be ok, with the amount of rock within the tank, but thought i would see if anyone disagrees? my other thought is that i could just run one for now, while it gets a bioload, and add the other later, but i would like to get rid of teh cannister sooner, if possible
also, there are 4 fish in it. there should be 5, but as of yesterday, i cant find the 5th. its a midsize diamond goby, which obviously hides under rock, but hes not under any rocks, so i have no idea where he is, nor is it on the floor, but for calculation purposes, assume that there are 5
