One of my favorite tanks (well, multiple tanks) were my seahorse systems. I had them at home and in my work lab. It was a great way to teach people how the females made eggs, but the males got pregnant and gave birth...so, kind of transgender-y rule defying fish. People found it confusing, then delightful, then completely normal. How about that!

Welcome fellow Pacific Northwest member. I agree I find clownfish fascinating. The fact that the dominant fish is female and also that they and other species like Anthias Can change from male to female.
Sorry your original introduction thread was deleted. I 100 percent disagree with that decision by the way. That certainly wouldn’t make one feel welcome here and really goes against what R2R’s mission statement if creating a safe and welcoming community for all. I’m glad you decided to stick around. I am without a tank right now but still visit the forums because Saltwater will always be in my blood and I just love the community .

Hi everyone! My original introduction thread got deleted or something, so here's a replacement. I'm a reefer and freelance designer in Portland. I love scuba diving, traveling, and hiking.

Seems like lots of people are getting back into the hobby with the pandemic and that's my story too. I had a little 12g cube about 10 years ago and loved having lots of soft coral. Now I'm back and going bigger! I hope to have some cool anemones and a clam in addition to softies and some LPS. I like coral that adds a lot of movement to the tank.

I also love how gender-bending and sex changes play out in aquatic life from clownfish and other fish changing their sex to seahorses rearing eggs. Nature is so amazing in its diversity!

It's amazing how many fish species in the oceans don't really conform with the whole gonochoristic thing that humans have going on. And even in the gonochoristic species, you can find same sex pairs like with butterflyfish, or polyamory like with banggai cardinalfish! And that doesn't even go into the whole "lemme switch sexes" thing that most of the fish that we work with in breeding do nowadays!

One of my favorite underrated fish the hobby is the chalk basslet and from my understanding they can switch genders almost 20 times in one day ! Absolutely spectacular!
