Ok guys, I've finalized my refugium set up for my 72 gallon, and need return pump recommendation. I'm getting the precision marine r24 refugium (24x11.5x14) with CPR cs(90) siphon overflow box (600 ghp). They both have 1 inch bulkhead. The distance from bottom to top of my tank is about 4.5 ft-5 ft. I'm not really sure how to calculate the head pressure, but I'll be using vinyl tubings for both overflowbox and return pump, so there isn't much bending until the end I'll be using a return u-tube for return water. Any suggestion???

an eheim 1260 should be good for you. They are reliable ones.. At 4.5 to 5 ft head it should give you about 500-550gph. your overflow sould be able to handle it.

both great pumps but if you go with the mag, i would change the screws to nylon because the originals rust.

They both look like good pumps. The mag drive 7 is rated at 700gph. Would it be ok to run this on a 600gph overflow box???

I have a lifreef overflow, and run an eheim 1260...love it. Quiet, little power, little heat. I'd only change it for a red-dragon/ATB flowstar, but that would be 2-3x $.

might want to use a ball valve in line with whatever you get just in case you need to throttle the pump back a little. better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
