I'm looking for a return pump for my first reef tank build, does anybody have any experience with the current usa DC pumps? i like the idea of being able to adjust the flow to get what i need.

#reefsquad any of you guys/gals have any experience with these pumps? I've never used one personally but I thought about it and was this > < close to buying one. In the end I saved the money and went with magdrive pumps. I might upgrade later

:)I've also stuck with the mag drive pumps and have never used this brand. Just so your aware you could also go either with a properly sized AC pump or you can also put a valve on the outlet side of an AC pump in order to control or dial in the flow. :)

That's what I do too! At least I do on 2 of my tanks . Lol [emoji23]

Yup. Turns out two mag 9's were a little too much for my 180. lol Who knew? I had one mag9 on my 75 and it was perfect. Ah well.

I'm running 2 mag 9.5's on a 120 and I have to throttle them back .... the returns can't handle it all.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with that one either. I am running a Jebao DC6000 on my 75 and it works great. Been running for a year and a half now with not one hiccup.

I also have one of these DC6000's and they do work well. I don't think they are as strong as a mag 9.5 but a pretty good pump all in all [emoji4]

Welcome to R2R
I was a mag drive person for the longest time. I switched to my first DC pump (waveline) and really like the DC pumps, very quite and like you stated adjustable ability.
I have seen some post and have seen the Current USA pump at reefapalooza. I am sure it is a quality product. Here are a bunch of videos Link if you decided on the Current pump let us know your thoughts.

I too have been using a Waveline DC12000 for nearly three years without issue. Not familiar with the Current USA model though.

Thanks for all the help, I'm planning on a refugium in my sump, how much flow should i be looking for? I've read 10x DT gallons per hour, then I've seen that it should be less for a lower flow thru the refugium.

Let us know how you like it. We are able to order this pump at work and I was thinking of trying it out on a display tank.

just an update, been running this pump since sept of 2017, great pump so far, other than a small snail getting stuck in the impeller, no issues at all. (knocks on wood)...
