So I’m going with just a basic waterfall style. I have a small pump that’s just sitting around that. I’m just going to place in the sump and use half inch PVC have the pump run water up and over and down. The netting and see how well that works. I think I might look for a sealed black box or something like that just to help with some of the light spread and sort of center it but we shall see. I’m excited to see how it comes out.

Sadly I don’t. Been debating on buying one but I haven’t the slightest idea how to work one and they seem to be very confusing to me lol

Be careful with that. Lower end printers take a lot of "dialing in" which can be super frustrating.

Bambulabs, Snapmaker, and some of the better Creality ones are more or less plug and play.

PETG or ABS usually. PLA is reef safe technically but it breaks down in UV so it can lose strength over time.

I use PETG for most but for decoration stuff, PLA works fine.

But bubble algae? Do you feel it's more effective than other algae at nutrient reduction?

@Imrahilwjz built one from a PVC pipe and some of the plastic mesh if I recall correctly.

I've printed 3 or 4 different models I designed - the best was a "stair-step" one that worked as a drop-in replacement for a filter sock in my sump. Currently I'm running a hang-on chamber for bubble algae (I'm a pioneer in the field!) with a stair step coming off the weirs that grows GHA. It's a little too good as I have to clean the weirs and the stairs every 2-3 days and I've removed several large clumps of bubble algae.

This my latest ATS. I place burlap scraps in the tub and there is a grow light above it that turns on at night. Effectiveness is something I'm unsure of...

Doubtful, just sounded fun. GHA and Bubble Algae are both growing in my tank so I figured giving them a place to grow with good conditions will keep them from growing elsewhere in the tank (or something like that?). It why they have Turf Algae Scrubbers and algae reactors - to give a nice environment so they'll grow there instead of somewhere else?

Keep in mind, all I'm doing is providing a "comfortable environment" for the bubble algae since it was already growing in the tank. The GHA strips more nutrients I'm fairly certain so I also added the stairs for that. Bubble Algae is easy to harvest.

Well, they like it dark or light with heavy to low flow.

Mine was that way early on. I had a sister-in-law ask how I was able to make the tank grow "all those pretty green bubbles " (or something to that effect)

Yesterday was a productive day, I upgraded the sump I started with (eshopps rs-75, I couldn’t stand having absolutely no room to move anything or to even maintain it. Got a steal on a eshopps (aqua-fuge). AR-100. It’s actually pretty perfect it’s exactly what I was needing.

Was able to get it cleaned out real good and installed, gonna need to adjust some of the plumbing today at some point because i have this thing plumbed crazy as hell right now.lol


Side note after getting everything going good and dialed in I left for work got back home around 6am to fine my entire aqua-scape in shambles the entire thing collapsed falling onto everything. I’m guessing when it fell forward it smashed two of my sps frags against the glass completely shattering most of them

The one was the very first coral introduced and had great growth from when I first got it. I still have no idea what could’ve happened while I was a work. Hoping i can save em I have them glued to new frag plugs and on a drag rack. Always any advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Congrats on the sump, but sorry to see your coral got smashed. Give them a chance to recover now that they are glued to new plugs, hopefully they will bounce back and you'll gain a few new frags

Need some advice.
I understand this could very well be apart of the ugly phase but looking for some advice

As you can see from the photos I’m having a significant bloom of something I’ve been blowing it off the rocks, scrubbing the glass and siphoning the sand but it’s back the following morning worse then before. I don’t know where to start to even look at what’s causing it. I have a Hannah phosphate tester and testing results are 0.04 (unless I did something wrong) N03 is 10. Any advice is appreciated. I do have to refresh my cuc since upgrading the system and since the hermits have slowly killed one another off any recommended CUC packages and from where would be appreciated as well. Where will I get the best bang for my buck

Definitely looks like part of the ugly phase. Likely diatoms or dinos. Diatoms is most likely culprit in my opinion.

How fresh is the RO membrane and DI resin in your RODI?
