Rinsing filter

Hello everyone! I plan on setting up my first saltwater tank this upcoming weekend, but after doing hours if research, i'm still wondering what kind of water people use to rinse their biofoam and carbon. I'll be using a fluval AC50 HOB. Do i use RO/ distilled water or saltwater to rinse the media? And also which kind of water to fill the filter if it even matters. Maybe i'm overthinking it, but i just want to get the setup right

For new carbon, I just do tap water into RODI. Just to get the dust particles off.

Not sure what a biofoam is, but looks just like a sponge; the same thing there. You should have enough filtration in the tank itself that washing it thoroughly with tap water won’t hurt

I would say in a perfect world where you are doing everything by the book, the best water to use for rinsing would be RODI.

I, personally agree with the above, though, that tap water is probably good enough for rinsing. I just don’t think that small amount of tap water would be detrimental in a large volume of water. Maybe in a pico tank.

So, RODI is certainly the best to use for everything that will touch your tank, but a lot of us don’t believe it’s necessary to take things that far.
