I was wondering about the life left in my RODI water filter. Especially the RO membrane. I bought a hand held TDS meter for 15 bucks on Amazon and figured I would test my water after filtering to see if my membrane and DI media was still working.I bought the filter kit in June 2016 when I first set up my reef tank. My RODI tested at 5. My tap water was 256. Bottled water I had was 50. Then I read about putting in a membrane flush that was simply two tees and a valve to by-pass your pressure regulator and would let water flush your RO membrane. This brought my TDS to zero after flushing. Prolongs spending 50 bucks to replace my filters! Just thought I would pass the info along. Anything that saves money in this hobby is great news!

The manual flush will help prolong the life of the membrane, but the di filters are what create the 0 tds water we seek out. you should always let your unit runs couple minutes before you start collecting product water.

Yes. It's just a by pass around your pressure regulator on the waste line.
