The main question is what are good sized acrylic rods? I saw some 3/16" on Amazon. Will these work? Are there local places in a city that might have them if my LFS doesn't? (Nashville) I saw some acrylic curtain rods, but I suspect those are too big.

Do I have to use rods, Can I drill and use zip ties and putty? I am looking to get some height out of this structure to get some more areas with better lighting near the top of the tank. I am planning on using cultured live rock from my sump provided I can work fast enough to keep it from drying out :D

I guess the short answer is you do not have to use rods...it really just depends on the rocks you're using and the scape you're trying to create. The objective is that it is solid with little chance of tumbling when you're finished. I know a lot of people use the fiberglass driveway markers available at HD or Lowes.

I personally just used the aquarium putty but I played around and got most of the larger pieces to more or less interlock together.
