RODI System (non permenant)

Hi All!!
I'm rather new to the saltwater world, but starting to get the hang of it.
I havd a 38 gallon tank with fish only for right now.

Going to my LFS to get RODI water tends to be a pain and super inconvenient, so looking into getting a non-permenant RODI system that can hook up to a facet.
Anyone have any good quality/affordable system they reccommend? Maybe around $250 or less. Open to suggestions!

The RODI buddy from amazon is what i use. It’s only like 60 bucks and works fine.

Bulk Reef Supply has several RO/DI systems to choose from. Personally, I got the 5-Stage Premium Plus 75 GPD RO/DI System from BRS. It came with a faucet attachment, but I couldn’t use it since I don’t have an older model faucet. Luckily, there was another attachment included, and I was able to use that to hook it up to my outdoor hose. I know they have other options depending on what you might need, but I didn’t look into those. If you’re on a budget, you could always check eBay or Facebook Marketplace.

I was looking at this one! It seems like it does a nice job, my concern was about the faucet connections as well. And I can use my hose, but I am in PA so in the winter we turn our outside water off to prevent freezing. That was my only concern!

Uswatersupply on ebay has good priced rodi units. That's where I got my 150gpd

Another vote for the rodi buddy from Amazon. Easy to set up and works well for a smaller tank.

I see everyone recommending the ro buddy.. it’s an okay unit but the filters deplete so fast it turns into a money pit! Get a standard size unit and just hook it to the sink like a couple of people have recommended! It’s the best bet and will save money over time.

I bought a garden hose y. Hooked up to my washer and split water to washer with the rodi unit. Flip switch and unit gets water flush shut off pump switch rodi off at the faucet

It’s working great for me! The only complaint I have is that next time I’d probably opt for the 150GPD model because it takes about an hour to produce almost 5 gallons with the 75GPD. But that was a mistake on my part. This is the attachment you’ll need to have it working from under your sink.

It’s cold right now in Texas, but not freezing temps yet, so I pulled my hose all the way inside my house to collect my RODI water, lol. I didn’t want to have to wait a few days to order that part.

i cant say they deplete that fast as i havent used it but i always recommend getting any standard equipment over oem bs.

There are a couple of placed it might fit. First check the fittings below the sink. Next i would check other sinks like the bathroom or if you have a utility sink. Right now im actually using the connection for my shower's handheld shower head. Just gotta keep looking there is usually some place for these to connect.
Sometimes it uses a different fitting and you might have to go to a hardware store to get different adapters but they dont cost much

I use a T under the sink. It just screws off so I put it off then remove when I move. Put a ball valve on it for on/off.

Agree that ro buddy is just okay due to non standard filters. It’s smaller and easier to store but costs more in filter replacements.

eBay one also has the DI part going horizontal in sideways cartridges. Again, not ideal. The water doesn’t channel through the media evenly and can leave some parts being exhausted and others not.

The part I linked can be installed under your sink permanently, but you can still pick up and move your RODI system when needed. You don’t have to place the entire RODI system under the sink; the tubes that come with the system are long enough to give you flexibility to place it almost anywhere within reason.

I'm going to piggyback on Troylees comment and say that the downside to the ro buddy is that they don't use the standard 10" filters.

I agree with you that the primary goal for an rodi is that is can utilize the common sizes so that you're not hooked to one type of filter.

At the same time, I wouldn't pick from Brs because their markup can be construed as a "reef tax" and there isn't any superiority to their product over any you find elsewhere.

@lwysocki51 you can definitely make any rodi unit portable with the right adapters, you can hook them up to your kitchen faucet, your bathtub, etc.
