Hey reef people. I am looking for some info on keep unsalted rodi water. I am currently using a 4 stage system. Tds reading out of the system is always 0. Testing the water 2 days after making. It's at 3 or so, and continues to climb over the time of use. Storage container is a 55g new unused trash can always covered when not being used. Only every used to hold rodi and mix salt for big water changes. Salt water never stays in the can long. Cleaned after every time it's empty with vinegar. Pump in water 24/7. ANY INFO OR YOUR EXPERIENCE IS HELPFUL.

I'm guessing the trash can is leaching something into your RO water. I am using two 55 gallon food grade barrels that I never cover and it is always 0-1 TDS.

I had thought the same thing but I have talked to local people. That's what was suggested.

What type of trash can? As noted above theres a variety. Is it a 55 gallon branded Brute or a cheap knockoff? Can you drop a photo of the system?

It's a brute. Its Not picture worthy.
Gotcha. Photo was meant more for reviewing the entire setup in case there is something we can gleam that might be impacting it.
To confirm. Its an empty brute. No holes, or hose connections? When you clean with vinegar what do you use to rinse and ensure it's dry?

Yeah rodi inlet is taken out after its full. Only thing come out is a cord of the pump to keep the water moving and that in between the lid. It's cleaned with rodi water and paper towels to dry.

I use this kit. I picked it up for much cheaper on sale, worth keeping an eye on. I personally love the simplicity of the included siphon hand pump.

Depending on where the system is located there could be enough of a gap from the cord to allow nasties in just enough to raise it to 2 or 3. ... i.e. near a furnace or dusty basement,tc.
The pump you use for the salt is a different pump than ro right?
(I'm sure it is just going through what I can think of!)
Are you saying you use the same barrel to hold rodi and mix salt depending on what you need??

Yes different pumps. And yes same barrel.

Not any concern. Even CO2 from the air can raise it 1-2 ppm TDS and a tiny bit of salty dust or slowly dissolving solids from last time salt was in it will raise it more.
