Hey everyone just thought I would share my new tank build. I had a Custom 100 gal long that was a really nice tank for almost 3 years but I had a really bad crash and lost almost all my corals mainly sps and highend zoas. I let the tank sit with only my fish in it for almost a year until I got fed up with it and decided to sell the entire system. I wanted to downgrade and go with a smaller tank for easier maintenance because I'm really busy now a days and don't have the time a larger tank requires.
I decided to go with the Red Sea Reefer 170. These tanks have amazing build quality and a sleek design that I really like. Plus its just about the size I was thinking about.
Equipment:
Red Sea Reefer 170
Ecotech Radion XR15w Pro gen 3
Ecotech Raion Rms XR15 mount
Reef Octopus Classic 152-s skimmer
Sicce Syncra 2.0 return pump

I haven't bought my Power heads yet because the tank is still cycling I have had mp-40s mp-10s and tunze pumps before and the Vortechs are just to loud tunzes are nice and quiet but I think I might go with two Jeabo rw4's on this tank if I don't like them no bigge they are cheap ill switch to some tunzes.

Ill be running Brs carbon and gfo so ill be getting their mini reactor soon and as well later on when the tank requires it a dosing pump.

I cant say enough good things and how amazed I am with the build quality of this tank. Red Sea knocked it outta the park with the Reefer series in my opinion.

Heres some pictures of progress so far.

Very nice. Just a FYI, the new Vortech QDs are ALLOT quieter than the old models. Upgraded my MP10s and the difference was night and day.

Yeah I had heard they were not as loud. I'm gonna give the rw4s a shot and if I don't like them no biggie they don't cost very much. I can always switch.

Cool thread, super helpful. Looking forward to getting my 170 this summer which will be my first reef tank.

How is the syncra pump noise-wise?

Any issues adjusting flow?

The Syncra pumps are great and really quiet.
Adjusting flow was easy once I figured it out. the adjustments are really tiny and you need to just keep making small adjustments and watching until you get the over flow quiet and to the correct level.

I did run some RW-8s in my last tank and they do move allot of water and quiet. Keep us posted.

Awesome to hear, this system will be like my last mainly sps and the few random highend zoas. The reviews on the rw4's looked good so well see.

Not much new going on with the Reefer 170 still cycling. I did get my Two Jebao PP-4's/Rw-4s in and put them in the tank. Wow I'm impressed so far these guys are little and they push a lot of water. I also bought one of the Motion sensor led bars for my sump/ under the cabinet area. That's about all just waiting on the cycle to finish up, which is always the best part........;)

Still cycling at this point, no ammonia or nitrites but high nitrates. I went ahead and did a water change just 10% gonna give it some more time before stocking better safe than sorry. I've set up enough tanks to know that rushing is never a good thing.
I also picked up a new red sea refractometer and a bottle of accurasea for calibration.

Is the green flex tubing for the return pump included in the Reefer pkg? I am getting 350 next weekend and have to make transfer the same day so I have to prep everything before hand.
Thanks
