Hello. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on what you do with my royal gramma. It's been in quarantine healthy after almost 30 days and suddenly it looked like this overnight. Scales were falling off and it looked like it had an intestinal blockage. It's alive but barely. I'm wondering if it can be saved or should be euthanized.

I've had a royal gramma in it for about a month. Treated water with general cure for 8 days and have been feeding metroplex, kanaplex with focus for the past week. It's been fine and healthy until last night when it looked like it has a blockage or something coming out of it and it's scales are falling off. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please post You Tube Video as this one does not play. Hold of with Metro which must be dosed precisely by weight, makes food taste bitter and should be applied Only when Necessary.
Need image to see what you are referring with scales and blockage

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

A couple of things off the bat: GC has metronidazole in it, so you don't want to dose it orally AND in the water. Also, Kanaplex can be toxic to the kidneys if you don't calculate the dose properly (and that's really tough to do - it's 50 mg per kg of fish mass). Despite what you'll read online, you CANNOT just mix drugs with Focus without measuring things properly.

The white thing looks like a bolus of feces. The white discoloration in front of the tail looks like mechanical damage, are there any other fish in with it?

Laying on the bottom like this is a really poor sign. It is also breathing fast, I'm afraid there isn't anything you can do for it at this point.....

For future reference, here is a post on medicated foods and one for general quarantine:

There are no other fish with it. Thank you for the information. It's still hanging on as of right now and it's been 24 hours since I noticed it having problems.

The tail marks look like disrupted scales, that's why I suspected tankmate damage. Uronema and some bacteria can also cause that, but less commonly. Do you have any medications on hand?

I read "30 day quarantine" but then I re-read it and didn't see any mention of copper use - that's really important to do with new fish to limit protozoan diseases.

The only medications I have are general cure, the metroplex and kanaplex. I do also have copper power.

Copper Power is a good way to treat with copper. You dose it at 2.25 ppm. However, I doubt that it will save the gramma, just for future reference.

So my royal gramma is still alive (shockingly). I'm in the middle of a second round of general cure according to the box instructions. The gramma might have actually eaten food (unmedicated) tonight after a few days without eating. Would you suggest anything to try to bring it back to health? It's still got some red sores on it's body and fins are tattered even without other fish in the tank.

Sorry, no - if you didn't try the copper, I don't have any other ideas as to what to use.
