Salt Water Mixing Stations Let's See Them!!

Reading through this thread sure helped me piece together my own Mixing Station, even went one step further and incorporated a Continuous Automatic Water Change using the GHL Maxi doser.

Love this setup. I am trying to get my 250g on an automatic water change.

Okay, so I'll share how I did this...

I used a 1/4" OD clear acrylic tube around 5 1/2 feet long to act as the pickup tube in the saltwater mixer/storage, it connects to a push-connect bulkhead at the top of the container. The other end of the bulkhead connects a 1/4" polyethylene tube which makes a short trip to the GHL Maxi unit. Along with the waste water side of the Auto Water Change solution, I went through about 80 feet of poly tubing. The section I ran through the wall and under the house makes that trip through PVC conduit where it moves through the floor and then into the sump.

The Danner Mag 12 Pump currently runs every morning between 4 and 5am to agitate the contents of the saltwater storage.

How do you guys clean the precipitate build up in the mixing cointaners? I’m thinking about using muriatic acid for my containers they are starting to get pretty dirty

These are in the mechanical sump room in the basement. Tank above on first floor. The vat to the right is for top off. One on the left is the older mixing vat.

The new 220 gallon station is built on blocks .. pain to level.. which is in the house furnace / water heaters room. just made it through the doors.. it is piped into the mechanical room next to it through the walls.

I was thinking about changing the bulkheads in my norwesco before setting it up. Right now it has the 5” manway & 1 -1/4” female threaded npt outlet.
Only reason I was thinking to change it is so that everything is slipped and glued in places and don’t have to worry about the threaded. Or should I just use what it came with. Thanks.

I used the threaded fittings in my Norwesco tanks and have not had a problem or any leak in 2 years.

One small advantage is being able to completely dismantle the set up and drag it out in the back yard for a good cleaning.

I prefer slip and unions to threads to be able to disassemble. I have had far more trouble with not fittings than slip fittings or unions

The tanks I ordered from ruralking took a bit longer than 6 weeks for me too. Just FYI in case, you rely on the lucky people's stories who got it way earlier than that.

Anybody know whats going on with ruralking.com? It says they are out of stock for like all of the ace roto mold containers. I want to price out a 25 gal for rodi storage. Do they run out of stock frequently?

In my opinion this should be as robust as possible to give you options. My system has 2 different configurations....

A) A Renew continuous water changing system
B) The ability to mix 55 gallons and bring it on-line after draining 55 gallons of existing tank water
C) The ability to draw buckets of RO/DI water or Saltwater


You run the system in either configuration (but not both) but the beauty is you never have to touch a bucket. In addition, my sink has it's own RO/DI spiget on the sink for cleaning the test vials. We are not up and running with this sytem yet. However, I designed the system to be as automated or as manual as I need. I plan on running it 99% of the time using the Renew water changing system.

I have multiple unions which allow for very quick disassembly. I fill it with RO/DI and a couple of gallons of white vinegar and run the pump for a couple of hours. Drain, disassemble and take the tank outside for a good rinse with the water hose and then air dry. Reassemble and good to go.

I do this once every 6 months or so or when ever I can't stand the looks of it. :D

Buying online always seems crazy expensive. I’d check out a farm/tractor supply store.
