replaced my kalk yesterday. I was getting nervous about my Kalk dosing so I decided to look into it... Turns out the Pickling Lime condensed around the stirrer blade like a puck; so the whole thing would spin but not really mix. Guess I need to increase the stirring to keep it suspended in the water. lowered dosing back to ~100ml/hr; 110ml/hr 6-11am.

Thanks to Steve at PrecisionConverting I can run my tank for another year!

Puck problem a known thing? Guess I should search for kalk-stirrer gripe pages to save myself some learnin'.

Actually, it very much is. I never had to deal with one. I know lack of experience has no right to talk. I've seen reports of it. Not hard to find if you look for a problem. Hard to find a problem until you run into it.

Ok; stirrer will go for 2 seconds every 3 minutes. hope it doesn't annoy me. I need to add the LEDs like I have for Adam's - Disco stirrer. I hope I don't oversaturate and precipitate out the Calcium? (Something bad happens if you over stir your calc in atmosphere.)

Have your mix at 2 tablespoons per gallon. That provides a fully saturated mix. Check the ph weekly for drop to clue you in on when to add more kalk. Exposure to air won't precipitate the calcium out of solution, but will degrade the potency, so make sure your stirrer is sealed. I'm not sure that two seconds every few minutes will do the trick. I set mine to stir (via magnetic stir plate) for 2 minutes every hour. That keeps the solution saturated and it from caking up.

I'm going to put in the LEDs before I put out any more videos on it. Its a DIY high-capacity version I made myself. ;)

Precision Converting is obviously a pretty well-used name!

Before I left on Saturday:

A friend gave me an awesome rainbow bubble tip anemone which went into the 15gallon.

And I traded some light shades to Jim@ ReefWISE for a canary blenny, a green mandarin a flame scallop and a ton of cleanup crew! He hooked me up.
