Sam's Oceanic 120 - DIY solutions

Got back from Macao Beach, Punta Cana, DM last night. Successful trip with the family! I didn't make an wrasse out of myself! This time.
Tanks are doing great. Pics forthcoming.

Like in the movie Annihilation:

was going to upgrade the under-tank to a 29 for the cardinals...

decided to plumb it in...

didn't read the paper tag they put while making it noting that it was tempered...

found another locally on offerUp... hopefully not tempered.

Well that's one way not to do it. Good luck with the next one :)

Ooooops

I noticed my pH drop off the other day and I went to fill the Kalkwasser reactor then I noticed the lights weren't on. I cycled its power and heard the motor run but didn't see the paddle move.

Figured I'd maintain it after a year? two? I forgot when I finalized this version...
anyway; I found the kalk powder wreaks havoc on PETG; the parts that were in solution seemed no worse for wear and I am reusing them.
using silicone for the LEDs this time as they bought the farm early and nylon screws for the motor because I got a little rust on the former screws.

lol. I've had that 29 for years and I remember at least 3 times setting up to drill it and seeing the tag and stopping and thinking that given enough time; this is exactly what will happen...

I actually made it 3/4 the way through before it gave it up...

got 3 regal demoiselle from my local Petco. they were on sale for $9.99 apiece.
I say we keep the penny in circulation just for abomination pricing like that...
Have them in QT but they're shy. Going back for the fourth that we couldn't get out of the rock.
Hopefully can get out to other area PetCos and find more because they're a schooling fish.

Love mine. She lays eggs every once and a while too.

I tried to get my 40 breeder under it but found It wont go. Thanks though! Have a used $30 29 gallon lined up.

Also, went back to the petco and got the 4th Regal Damoiselle. the other local petco didnt have them in stock.

It was worth a shot, my generosity was more selfish than selfless - I need the dang thing out of my house hahah.

There’s a trick to see if tanks are tempered with a pair of sunglasses and a phone screen.

I can’t remember the exact way but you can search for it. Polarized shades, look through the glass to the phone screen and it’ll look different.

Just sold a bunch of coral - trying to get 2 Orphek 150 bars and upgrade the one I won to a 150 so I plan to put 3 5' Orpheks on my top coral growout tank...
I hope they are game to hook me up with special pricing / the upgrade. something.

I'm sure they will. This is so awesome! I can't wait to see them in action!

I know. the funds from the corals are hitting my Zelle later today. it'll take willpower not to pull the trigger . But, if they send me a 4'er I may consider ReefBreeders ;D. They already said they'd let me upgrade for the difference in cash - but its been radio silence since then.

Have you taken a look at the Quantas? I believe @danieyella has them, and I'm considering them because they also come in a 6' flavor, whereas the Orphek line does not.

Feel free to send me a DM with what you've got still... I've been on a spree of filling up the tank, and I'd love to support the local folks (and enable their upgrades) :)

These looks slick and have been a consideration for me as well, my fear with them is heat dissipation. The Orpheks seem to be a little chunkier which should presumably help with passive cooling.
