Sand Bed Or No Sand Bed!

Just like the topic says. What's in ends and out of both options above? Trying to decide what to do when I get my 50 gallon cube in the future.......

What do you plan on keeping in the tank? There are going to be a handful of creatures that will require a sandbed.

I just responded to a thread with this exact title, search some old threads and you will find some good answers. In a nut shell, no sand bed is great because it keeps detritus in suspension.

Need the proper flow to keep it in suspension, if one doesn't have the proper amount of flow, or "aimed" correctly, a barebottom can/will still collect detritus on the bottom.

Sand bed, but shallow in my opinion

I've always liked a shallow sand bed. It does need some upkeep and maintenance, but it looks more natural to me. It is important to incorporate some sand stirrers to help turnover the sand. I also gravel vac a portion of my sand bed with each water change.

Both have advantages and disadvantages and preference or habits has a lot to do with this...

One important question i have, will the system ever be moved? If so, then do shallow sand bed as said or no sand bed. A DSB is a nightmare to move...i don't think they actually can be moved properly, it's a do over situation i believe.
