SCAM ALERT : Question?

Hey, I just got a weird text message. I showed interest in a coral that was being sold by another member. I responded through the R2R app and then I received a text message asking if I wanted to purchase it which I responded yes. He wanted me to Zelle him money via text and then called me brother multiple times which for me that’s like alert alert

Anyway, I’m just curious are anyone else running into these issues? I don’t wanna put the person’s membership name on this post because I don’t wanna put them on blast if I’m mistaken, but I’m just curious if anyone else went through these type of scams or if this is possibly legit.

Have you put your phone number somewhere on one forum?

Scammers scan for numbers and then they will reach out to you via text and say that they are some well known member of the forum and steal money.

If I'm in doubt I ask for a phone number so I can call and discuss details

It got crazy, I was spammed by 3 different numbers acting as if it was the husband, wife and kid in desperate must sell, lol!!

I still don't understand how they got your phone number, that's weird, and not something I believe R2R would make available (even if they had it).

That makes sense sorry guys. I am a public guy. I constantly help coach in the Mortgage and Realestate industry.

The fraud game has gotten absolutely insane though.

R2R has always been an amazing platform. I just wanted to let everyone know it was weird.

Thanks. The only way we have a phone number is if you bought a partner membership from us or something like that. But we would NEVER give out any type of information.

Top be clear with what happened here.

1. A scammer saw where you posted in another members selling thread that you were interested in the coral for purchase.

2. The scammer saw that you had a public number (on your website in your signature) so they sent you a text pretending to be the member you wanted to buy corals from.

3. They hope that you think it's the actual seller and you send them money.

It's all very convincing at first but it's a simple classic scummy scammer tactic.
