So i bought some scolys from a LFS that are in really bad shape, both have skelton showing one worse then the other, The reverse warpaint one has already shown improvement since i first bought it, but the warpaint one does not seem to one to heal, I do see something inside the skeleton that may be perventing it growing back and was wondering if I should clean the skeleton out with a light brush or just leave it be, any help would be greatly welcome.

should i clean out the skeleton a little bit so its open and not closed off, the spaces inbetween each skelton ridge

ok think this weekend im going to take a sharp knife and carefully clean scrape out the skelton in the worse section and see if that does anything, if it does will post the results here since noone seems to want to answer

I would say no cleaning as long as nothing is irritating the flesh. I almost lost my acantho. Withered down to a 10th original size. Once it recovered it laid down new skeleton.

I bought them this way, they were only 20 bucks each, the red one has recovered alot but the blue ones skelton is covered in a thick hard brown stuff

I would suggest a 15 min bath in iodine and tank water (I use Seachem ReefDip but there are plenty of options), then placement in low light, low flow and 2-3 feedings a week with zooplankton type foods. Scolys can regenerate lost tissue but it takes time. This will aid in recovery.
