I purchased a sweet little Scopas Tang last Sunday and put him an unmedicated QT. Initially he was very relaxed and was picking at the algae on the live rock and swimming around alot. Within a day he became very skittish and spends a lot of time in the PVC pipe. Tank has been lit w ambient light up until yesterday, when I added a light to the tank that I run at 10-15%.

Today I noticed a scrape or sore on his right side. It doesn’t look like white spots. He is eating and swimming around a bit but still very skittish. Do you think this is an injury or infection? Suggestions?

A few things I see.... Fish has a rash or injury which has become a bacterial infection and will need treatment using Seachem Kanaplex. You likely are not medicating tank with presence of coral and what looks to be macroalgae. They should not be in a quarantine setting as well as any rock and will need to be relocated for treating this fish. Remove debris on bottom which is present and the alert badge is less than reliable and I recommend a reliable ammonia test such as Salifert or Hanna brand kit

@vetteguy53081 thanks for the help. His sore is gone (just one dose of Kanaplex needed)! He’s still pretty skittish but eating Spririlina brine and swimming around a bit more. Hoping to fatten him up w a better variety of food. I’m cautiously optimistic that he’ll be fine
