Hey you scotch drinkers!

I've just started drinking scotch and I was curious if anyone had any suggestions for me to try?

Thanks!

I drink Scotch, but its on a beer budget, so I drink the cheap stuff. Like it cold so I keep mine in the freezer.

Taste a many different single malts before you buy a $$$ bottle; learn what makes them different and figure out what you like.

And I'd suggest 1 ice cube...cold will "cheap in check" any intensity and when it melts the water will "open" the flavors.

Cheers!

So it is ok to add a cube to it? I was told for the pure flavor, never add a cube. ??

I can't offer much advise, considering I have a cast iron palate. However, I've had some nasty tasting scotch, but am happy with moderate to low price brands such as Dewars. In addition, I'm of Irish descent, and the common saying within the family is that, "There was no such thing as bad booze, just some's better than others." I'll drink to that!

It's all about what you like.

Most purest will suggest a few drops if water to open the flavor...and a water back.

I simplify it with 1 ice cube that opens the flavors as it melts and the chill makes most drinks more approachable. Key is to not over do it such that the ice dominates

If we're sharing personal taste...

Highlands: Highland Park or Oban

Islay: Talisker or Lagavulin

Check out the Johnny Walker site. The host "tastings" all over the place. Usually it's for black but once in a while they throw blue in there. Basically it's a all you can drink for 45min then they talk about some of the different single malts that go into the blend. And you get to try those too. Good times.

My scotch of choice though is Johnny Walker Gold. Not to expensive but IMO light years from Black and Red. On special occasions I will pick up a Bottle of Blue
