It is against the law to collect Seagrass inthe US.
Wait a min. I don't know that. It is illegal to disturbed seagrass bed in Texas.

I collected seagrass by walking the shore of the Corpus Christi Bay after high storms and pick up uprooted sea grass and then grow them in my tank.

I know Floridapets, Live-Plants, and a few others have had it in the past but I'm having trouble finding any in stock. I was hoping I could find someone on here willing to trade for other macros/corals/ maybe a rock flower nem.

too cool! Would it do well in your tanks? I want to over run a tank with seagrass before adding anything else to it.

@HarryC

I have been growing seaweed (macro algae) for > 20years. Sea grass are marine plants and they are much more difficult than coral. As a Mariculture facility, I find macro algae more difficult than coral.

It's not an endeavor I plan on taking lightly. Visiting your website now, but I'd love to know more about your Seagrass systems. I'm in the planning stages and haven't been able to find a ton of info on successful tanks. My current plan is 70 gallon cube with a 8" layered bed of crushed coral, marine sediment, and fine sand. 24", 6 bulb T5 full spectrum ATI bulb fixture + supplemental Black Box LED for lighting and an MP40 for flow. I want to let the bed mature with pods from my home tsibe culture and bacteria for at least 60 days before adding Seagrass.

I am surprised you can find my website because I can’t find it since Google stopped hosting it in January. I didn’t pursue it as I was going thru a long recovery from two complete knee replacements. Just call me titanium man.

On this website, a graduate student/research scientist has three separate threads on seagrasses. The facility is located in Florida’s Indian River lagoon. My computer search skills are weak. I’ll look for it later in the day when it is too hot to work outside.

On reef central website, Marine Plants & Macroalgae forum, check out the thread “Weeds”. Talk with Michael.

I've been meaning to start collecting eelgrass (Zostera marina) locally and try it out. I think I remember reading about difficulties with reef temps, but it's worth a shot.

Can you legally collect macro where you live. Technically, here in Texas, we can not harvest macro unless it’s on the beach.

Ah sorry, thought it was in my sig. California.
Are you familiar with mariculture at Carlsbad, California? I think it is near San Diego. I used to buy Red Ogo & pods from them.

Do you ever post macroalgae for sale or trade on this site or any other site?

No. I sold to retail LFS store in Austin. Initially, my target market was Asian restaurant selling fresh Gracilaria Parvispora, Red Ogo. Mariculture was carried out in 20’ by 40’ greenhouse with 150G Rubbermaid tubs using air to create a tumble culture.
