Sea star ID?

Can anyone help ID this sea star? the owner of the LFS said it was caribbean and “mostly” reef safe. he had it in a huge tank with a bunch of coral. i drip acclimated him for 2 hours. he’s very fuzzy and active! thanks

Definitely an Echinaster species. Looks like E. Sentus, or the Common Florida Star. If so, they are generally reef safe, but do have a taste for sponge(s). As they get larger (7" or so max), they can pose a threat to clams and anemones. It is a beautiful specimen! Enjoy, and happy reefing!

I agree, it’s very beautiful! The photo’s don’t show it too well, but the tips are hot pink.
I currently have a 5 inch bubble-tip in my tank.. should i be worried? are these like chocolate chip stars in the way that i’ll need to feed it meaty foods? sorry, i only have experience with linkias.

Historically, meaty (clam, mussels, squid) offerings were always welcomed by my Echinasters.
