I picked up 2 units, custom build, for a new 120 and there’s no disappointment. I contacted Ed a few weeks back and within a few days we were in touch via mail regarding specifics of the units down to color specs of the fittings.

Units arrived extremely well packed and the craftsmanship is tops, these are SOLID.

I don’t understand why they’re not more popular, they’re cheaper than a number of the wavemakers out there, provide some great flow (I’m running the smallest 1/2” units at 500gph each), and you can not get a better random flow.

I’ve got my 2 mounted at the back of a 4’ tank facing forwards, one about a foot from the left side and one a foot from the right, on 90 degree sweeps and the random flow is better thank anything else I’ve had, including gyre MP combos.

Needless to say I’m loving these, best purchase I’ve made for the new tank by far.

They are solid products and Ed is a stand up guy. Maybe I'm biased because I own a pair of 1" Sea Swirls but every interaction I've had with him via email even so far as going back to 2001 has been nothing but great. Great product. Simple. It flat out just works.

As to why they are not promoted more or visible in home aquaria I cannot say other than those that have them know about them and will usually continue to use them. The only reason I can see why some wouldn't use them is with regards to power failures and backup flow options. If you use Sea Swirls as part of your return plumbing if something was to happen and there are no other tools to move water in the case of a failure of the return pump and/or electricity then it could be a big deal. Power heads can last longer when on a backup battery of some time and scaled properly. Since this is a concern of mine I'm just implementing a air pump to trigger off a battery backup unit in the even of a power failure. About the best solution for me along with the Apex heart beat enabled to notify me in the event of a outage.

Great products though I'll second and third. I have my pair on a virtual outlet on my Apex to simulate tides. I can ramp up/down the Cor return pumps to get that in/out flow. Added some random flow nozzles and it gets even better. But yeah - they are great. Then again I'm a happy owner so probably biased!

You can find the 1/2" models in the $170 range (500gph max), 3/4" in low $200s (900gph), and the 1" for lmid $200s (think they're about 1200gph max).
Check their website or a few of the major sponsor shops here. Its surprising they're not more well known.

They used to be. For a long time people used them allot till prop pumps started to hit the market.

Pretty much what @Mark_C noted. However if you want exact pricing visit the URL noted above and then products. You will get the exact price then. If you have a sump and a return line then it is a natural addition if you want my personal opinion. Multiple lines then it adds even more. The RPM range the motors use makes it such that there is no direct contact with flow to rock or coral for longer than a couple seconds. Placement and position of the elbow from the device controls the 90 to 180 degree sweep.

I’ve been using 3 one inch on my 265 gal SPS tank for over 11 years... they are the best... had one strip out about 5 yrs ago and Ed repaired quickly... so many more folks should use them..
