Just grabbed a small seed rock from my LFS. Not sure what this is. LFS said its not aiptasia but im very skeptical. I trust the guy but... I super paranoid of my brand new tank. Can anyone ID? Its got a VERY slight green tinge to it, ends of the tentacles have a white tip. If i need to I can pull the rock with ease and do whatever is best to rid it if i need to. If not... it can try to survive the cycle :)

Not sure what that is, but I'd pull the rock out without question ASAP. Not worth the risk.

How would i kill it effectively without wasting away all the goodness of the seed rock.

Pull the rock. That's my advice. Buy another $15 one and don't risk it.

You can try and kill it off, but some of those little anemones are extremely small. You don't see them, they move to the other rocks. Then you've got a much harder problem to solve.

A $15 one minute fix now, could end up being a hundred dollar 3 month battle later. It definitely looks like some type of anemone to me. I'm not expert. I used only dry rock, and seeded only what I wanted in the system. I.E. coraline scrapings, worms, pods, bottled bacteria.

Does not look like Aiptasia to me at all.

Possibly a hidden-cup coral or something similar.

~Bruce
I think you may be right. After crawling on the ground to get a really good look at it. Pulsing my powerhead to get it to move. It looks like there is an LPS skeleton right next to it. Also it shrunk almost 2x its size when it was moved and now is HUGE probably the size of a nickel. It does seem to look like this: http://imgur.com/ymMyWg8 from a few angles. Cant see any skeleton from where its coming from but the thing i circled looks nothing like a foot. Almost reminds me of a polyp.

Should i remove it? I mean i really dont want to waste this live rock. If i can just take the rock out, grab some tweezers and pull it to death in a salt bucket, rinse it really good then put it back in. Id do it. Im not looking to have this coral in my take on purpose so...

Thank you Bruce. I tapped it a few times with a net and it closed up. Tapped on it some more. Moved the meat off to the side and there was the LPS skeleton. dang either my LFS is on his game or just really... really.... lucky guess.

+1 on the hidden cup coral. The spots on the feeders (they're really cool if you look at them under blues) are what give it away for me.

Don't do anything! Cup corals are cool. It's positively not an aiptasia.
