Welcome to the Reef2Reef POTM Contest - Photo of the Month

Sponsored by
Avast Marine!

This month's subject -Macro shot

Deadline to Enter: 10 Oct , 2022 at 11:59 pm (EST)

Looking forward to great macro shots ! Remember, the photo has to have been taken by you, and the subject has to be in your aquarium.
No watermarks or captions are allowed in the pictures and pictures with watermarks will be disqualified.
A bit of info around your shot, will add value, coral or fish ID, since when do you have it, any special care tips ... as well as some info about lighting or parameters used in thepics that is always valuable.

This is a photo contest after all and we're looking for the best photograph. Yes, you can use a post-editing product to better your pictures. In fact, we encourage it.
Few tips:
- Macro shots are by defnition higher magnification shots. this shows better details of the subject but also magnifies the artifacts in a picture at the same time, ie motion blurr, unsharpness, noise.... for this carefull shot preparation and attention to below can help.
-better use a quality camera and a quality lense if available as that usually provides better picture quality
-use of a tripod to minimize camera shake which will ve very visible in macro shots.
-use of higher IS) to get fast enough shutter speed to freeze subject motion. not to high to avoid noise as well.
-Macro shots typically have shallow Deapth of field as camera is closer to topic, smaller aperture (bigger number) will give more DOF if thats desired but thsi will be at the cost of shutter speed.
other preparations for better shots: clean front glass as any dirt will be very visible, avoid shooting afterfeeding to avoidparticles in the water, decrease or stop water flow in tank for less subject motion.

As always refer to the multiple photography articles or post any questions you might have on the photography forum for better support. Maybe also post a few pictures for suggestions and critique to improve your shots wile preparing for this months contest as well.
