For my experience, they dont need to be feed that often at all, I believe that also have something to do with your nutrient level.

Maybe you are just getting your acans too close to the lights , getting to much Par ,, I have Radions over my tank ,, do they effect acan color over time ,, yes,, I have found most of the time ,, its to a deeper, richer color ,, I have some in my tank that are prettier now ,, then when I got them ,, they were pretty nice when I got them :)
