I cannot recall EVER having a failure with airport to airport cargo shipments, not since the 1980's anyway.
This is the way! It is expensive for sure, but your stuff arrives alive. Also, I've had no issues with air cargo. Maybe a minor 30-minute weather delay or something but that is relatively insignificant. It ain't cheap though...

As an aside, last time I picked up stuff at the SW cargo desk, they were laughing at me and knew what I was there for. They said, "Y'all fish people are always the first ones to show up after a plane unloads. Every time." 🤣

Back in the 1970's. air cargo would be ready for pick up in 45 minutes, Over the years, that has slid, to now, its more like 3 hours + at DTW. If you wait to hear if the shipment has cleared, it will be even longer. I always show up at 2 hours post-flight and stand around looking sad and forlorn. Often, the counter worker will take pity on me and go out into the warehouse and get the boxes.

One time, I was there wearing tan pants, a dress shirt and a long coat. The counter worker asked me, "so who are you here to pick up?". It was then I noticed that I was standing next to a group of funeral attendants there to pick up bodies for their mortuary....
