Shoehorn 150 build

Amazing tank! Was planning on ordering one soon and I love the price point of these. I’m in the process of gathering equipment and was now on lighting. What lighting are those bars? And do you know the thickness of the glass? I have some Orpheks I was hoping to use just figuring the mounting as I can’t go through the ceeling.

Edit* my stupidity is showing tremendously I see they are orphrek bars. Are they the mounting kit from them aswell?

They are the older OR3 bars. I picked them up for a steal on market place. It’s the Orphek mount with the leg extensions to mount to the stand as opposed to the glass. Honestly for “German” engineering the mount sucks, it sags a lot from the weight of the lights. The lights are awesome they double the par level at level at the bottom of the tank when they are combined with the Kessil’s. I can’t even turn them on right now they are to intense. l’m planning on using them once the coral grows out and starts shading areas. Debating raising them another 6” so I don’t cook the LPS on the bottom of the tank.

Glass is 1/2”

I can’t lie the mounting setup is sleek and I like it. I wasn’t aware of or haven’t thought of mounting to the stand.

Thank you for the glass width I can’t find anything online
If I can pester you for just 2 more questions. What’s the sump skimmer dimensions ? I plan to run an oversized skimmer for sps.
What’s the return pump area dimensions?
Once again thank you it’s so appreciated. You’re right they cut down on tank prices by not filling any information out online!

I originally had 2 COR15 pumps crammed in there but anything more then the lowest setting on both pumps ran it dry.

It's a mindset thing... push past (ignore) the uglies and enjoy the tank for what it is now, having confidence that when it's 12-18 months settled in, it will be pure joy! Looking fantastic so far. 😉

Thanks man, so far they haven’t been to terrible. The coralline algae is slowly gaining territory so I think I’m on the back end of it now.

Well the uglies turned into ostreopsis so I nuked them with a 57 watt uv in the display dosed neonitro and did 5 days of H2o2 dosing 12ml/day. Tossed in 4 pints of pods and 100ml phyto daily. 2 weeks later we seem to be in the clear. Planning on running UV for 2 more weeks just to be sure. Thanks to Mack’s dinoflagellates support group on FB!

It’s been awhile since I have posted an update. My white tail tang died from what I assume was velvet or possibly a secondary infection from Ich. All my surviving fish are in hospital tanks fully recovered from a 30 day copper treatment. I went ahead and QT’d all the fish again with metro and praziquantel. Easter Sunday my fallow period comes to an end fish will begin going back in. The good news is my corals are super happy. What is weird is my PO4 is still at .2 despite only feeding the tank once a week. I’ve begun using GFO in a sicce shark based on the recommendation from “serious reefs”. I would not recommend the shark for GFO the granules are too small for the baskets so you have to dump the GFO into a filter sock tie it shut then put it in the media basket. It is however working PO4 went down to .1 with GFO. I turned off the shark to keep it from bottoming out and it climbed right back up to .2. Do yall think it’s the Marco rock still leeching PO4 6 months later?

Hair algae/ possible Byropsis has been a fight without my Tang gang.

It’s been a few months I thought I’d post an update. Finally got my crazy phosphate under control but my trachy and scolly aren’t happy about it.

Nice work for a first reef tank!
im purchasing the same tank locally, time to upgrade from my red sea 200L.. what are the dimensions of your sump? Also are your orpheks the 48" or the 60"? i have 2 of the or3 24" on my red sea and am looking to get the or4's for the 150 but am trying to decide between the 48" or 60"

What do you think about the Planet Tanks. I’m thinking of getting out the Tideline Crystaline.
I just got the Crystaline g2 48x24 about a month ago. So far I’m very impressed with the quality of both the tank and stand. The low iron glass is amazing and the sump is very appropriately sized with 6 chambers, enough to do anything you want with it. Doors on the side are awesome as well.
