I managed to get my RS425 down to 10ppm no3 for a while while dosing 14ml of nopox. I could never keep sps alive. No monti, no poccilopora, no birdsnest.
So i swapped to vinegar. Now just to maintain 30ppm no3 im dosing 90ml of vinegar.
Foxface
Lemonpeel
Flamehaw
6line wrasse
Blue streak wrasse
Chocolate sand sifter
Lawnmower blenny
Mandarin
Chromis
Mimic filefish
2x clowns
2x azure damsels
1x marbled shrimp
Plus cuc
Of these i figure foxface would pollute most.
Ive started to remove sand from over 2" down to 1"
Been dosing reef anabolics from start.
Now wondering if the reef anabolics might be my problem. If i go back to mixing salt and wc using mixed salt i can stop dosing.
90ml of vinegar a day cant be good.

Sorry for the long post

I don’t think I understand the question.

By mixing salt are you asking if you should go back to doing water changes?

If you are not seeing cloudiness or the buildup of bacterial slimes, I don’t think that your vinegar dose is a problem. Many people dose vinegar long term.

Inability to keep SPS can be related to many things. Your 30ppm nitrate is not an issue by itself, in my opinion. Other parameters like phosphate, major and minor elements, etc can play a role.

There is no problem with that vinegar dose in your size tank if it is spread out to minimise pH effects.

If you're not doing regular water changes and instead relying on the trace elements in the Anabolics dosing, I'd suggest that is part of the problem.

Water changes do more than add traces, they also remove stuff that cannot easily be measured, like DOC's.

There is no problem with that vinegar dose ...

I do 40lt a week. Roughly 10%
I was thinking my dosing of nopox was the problem of keeping sps. I have 2 AI HD32 and have an algea issue as it is

A Red Sea 425 with 2 AI hydra 32 is not going to be enough for most sps. I had 3 on a 55gal tank and it was able to keep acros going with them cranked up to about 80%

I think you need a lot more light for SPS.

I have 3 x AI 64HD's on my 75 gal display.

How is your flow? What X turnover would you estimate the tank has?

Sure do. Does 2ml lanthanum daily
What is your phosphate level when you don't dose lanthanum, and what is it when you do?

If you take phosphate really low by other means, then the vinegar can't work well, if the bacteria have vinegar and nitrate, but no phosphate, they refuse to eat basically
