Kind of. But it's hard to know for sure. I was home by myself with 3 kids all age 4 and under so I didn't really have time to examine him properly. That and I was so frustrated I didn't want to.

You're probably gonna need to do a WC after 4-5 days. But I would just keeping test for ammonia 2-3x daily and go by that.

Yes, so long as you have bio-media (ex. sponge) in a filter for the bacteria to colonize. And water needs to be passing thru your bio-media so the bacteria can process the ammonia.
