Beautiful frogfish. Has it always been that color?

I need to get some recent pics, I have a video of her feeding somewhere! But yes Froggy is going strong and yes he is a she, having laid two very large rafts of eggs to date.
I have had the pleasure of keeping Froggy now for two years. She is still in the same 50g tank set-up next to my main tank, and seems to enjoy trying to 'swim' the glass to eat her neighbours from time to time.
She is currently about 6 inches from nose to tail. I feed her a defrosted 4 inch mulie (aussie pilchard we use for fishing bait) once every week-2 weeks. Generally I don't feed her again until she starts to look hungry and swims the tank. She gets a live fish maybe twice a year, a small damsel.
No special treatment for the tank, it's basic with some rock and a little sand. No light as I feel she prefers a darker spot, and there is light from the neighbouring tank.
Hopefully we stay together many more years

The Grump lives! It's amazing how efficient they are at digesting giant meals. He/she was doing the hippity, hoppity food dance around the tank last night too.

My LFS has a gorgeous orange one for sale right now. I have a species tank ready to dedicate to him that's been set up for two years and has no other fish in it right now, but it has some aiptasia growing in there, so I need to move a peppermint shrimp over from my main tank to take care of the issue before adding a frog fish. The peppermint would obviously be a snack on day one.

Anything ever survive? What would you feed a baby angler?
Here are my pair. They spawn every 7 days.
The larger female started out red!
Sadly no. The larvae hatched at the breeding centre and survived to 7 days. See photo below. Unfortunately the larval stage is 80 days so keeping the larva fed was very difficult. They tried a few times but couldn’t get the food needed as they developed. Apparently the only person to successfully breed this particular species is a guy in Hawaii national aquarium who can pump in sea water which has what the larvae need to eat, live phyto and Parvocalanus. 80 day larval period is a lot. I offered to pay for the food for the breeder but he needed the tank for his other tank bred stock so couldn’t spare it for that long.

Here's one Pacific Island Aquatics had in a while back. LOL! I just look at him and think "BRAAAIIIINNNNNZZZZZZZ...."
I got them in September 2023. I feed the female probably 3 times a week on a whole frozen lance fish manually gut loaded with 2 x ocean nutrition medium size pellet. When she is hungry she comes to the surface and waves her fishing rod in the air or spits water to get my attention. The male doesn’t eat so often - probably once a week. He has a tail end of a lance fish and then gut loaded live river shrimp - approx 6 shrimp - a week.

Old post I know but just saw it. Poor guy! That lion was like ya snooze ya loose lol. Angler spent like 5 minutes stalking it and the lion swoops in and gets it in two seconds!

Lol in my tank I have to chase off the triggers with mu hand so I can feed my lion so I know the feeling! She likes to watch her food and focus where as the triggers just eat eat eat!

I’ve had about 5 over the years and I do it once a week. I’ve only been able to keep them less than a year. I’ve tried letting them hunt for damsels and I’ve tried feeding frozen with the same results.
