Show Off Your Sumps!

System is under construction. There will be 2 frag tanks and a 60g cryptic sump plumbed into this. There are two roller chambers. But it’s pretty basic, just made to handle several bodies of water. Display is 400g. There is a O2 scrubber, poop locker and media reactor plumbed in. In the return chamber there are 5 Ecotech return pumps.

What are those giant pods? This doesn’t look magnified. Those look ghost shrimp size
They look like amphipods, I find them in my sumps as well. Super neat critters and will break down a lot of organic waste when heavily populated. Biggest I’ve personally seen are about 1-1.5cm long, occasionally I shake some out of media/macro algae into the tank to feed fish and populate the display

I love seeing all these sump photos!

Still working on mine. 180 display cr44 sump. Regal 200s. Waiting for some cable management things to come in and controller mounts. Uv behind the sump plumbed from manifold with output into the display. And calc reactor needing to be installed after cable management.

I'm hoping those are amphipods, because that's what ID'd them to be- both my tanks are overrun with them... That big. I got a mandarin to deal with them, but they're bigger than his mouth. (The wrasse handled them)

I know amphipods…from reef keeping 20+ years. I’ve never seen them as large as yours. You have some kind of giant species of them. How big would you say they are?

On average, amphipods measure less than 0.4 in (10 mm) in length; however, the largest species ever observed is Alicella gigantea, which reaches up to 13 in (340 mm). Some specimens of this species, collected from the Kermadec Trench, have also measured around 13.7 in. In contrast, the smallest amphipods are not more than 0.04 in.

For reference the video is of a trigger crystal 30 center section. I didn't know the were unusually large. Maybe I'll set up shop and start a business! LOL,

This is a photo of the sump when I first set it . Again video was of the center section.

I have a trigger Ruby 30! Same sump but red and with probe holders

If those are 1/2” pods I’d buy some for my pico tank

I tried sexy shrimp but they ate zoanthids. So now my pico has no shrimp or fish…been wanting to find something small to put in it but at 1 gallon…it’s challenging.

It has pods but they are 1/16-1/8”. Normal pods lol
