Hi folks,

Im new on here and new to reefing also. This is the perfect thread for me.

Currently I have a Juwel Rio 350 litre tank - standard with the internal filter, Juwel LED lights etc

I have it up and running with approx 25kg of live rock, a Fluval FX4 and the internal filter. Water parameters are ok as I cycled witha bottle of ATM Colony

Could someone please advise me what media, how much and what order I should put in both filters to keep the water parameters in check.

The current filter media was in the filters as I also bought a used Juwel Rio 240 to set up as a second tank (this came with FX4, Juwel int skimmer etc). I just want to make sure I have it set up correctly going forward as I would like to keep corals etc

Currently I have no ammonia or nitrite however I do have Nitrates (which may be a lot to do with the used filter) I intend to do a water change at the weekend to reduce that and hopefully can keep it fairly low without too many large water changes

Thanks folks - any advice for a complete newbie greatly appreciated

I'd love to hear about what happened...
I have a brand new empty RIO 350 awaiting its first fill, I've spent a couple of weeks on reef research, I could end up with a couple of Piranhas to be honest, or I could end up with a beautiful coral reef, this thread is an absolute gold mine for me - I'm only on page 2, I'm savoring the pages.

I'm thinking about trying 30kg live rock and deep live sand, a HOB skimmer, water movement, some Kessil lighting and then experimenting with water and Coral for an extended period of time before I think about getting any fish.

Hopefully an email notification reaches you from this - or something, and you come back and tell how it went.

Not sure how "sumpless" the tank is. It's the main display of 29 gallons with a 10 gallon display fuge tied in. Filter is macro algae and I think I have some filter floss and hang on back. It's stocked with two bubble tip anemones, one rose BTA and one Colorado sunburst. I have a Duncan and some zinnia in there, three different chalices, and a couple of different sps. I dose two part and change the water when I'm feeling spicy.

Current fish stocking is a platinum clownfish Smith's blenny Springer damsel and bicolor blenny. But as soon as I'm done being a bed for a newborn I'll get the box of fish that's sitting outside my door right now. In the box is a mated pair of watchmen gobies and four chalk Bass and 10 or 12 bumble bee snails, there might be something else in there but I forget at the moment.

I don't have a current picture of my tank available right now but I do want to follow this post.
I have a 75 gallon tank that I am running with a Fluval canister filter. I keep carbon and floss in the canister.
I also run a UV filter in the tank (place in back corner), 2 powerheads, and a heater.
Lighting is a Current USA Orbit LED light - Amazon product
I do water changes every three to four weeks (10G-15G) depending on my schedule.

I will try to remember to post a pic tonight when I get home but I have a 90 gallon run off of an HOB filter for carbon, an Oase 600 biomaster canister filter, an HOB skimmer, a UV sterilizer and a doser. Lights are Hipargero 100 watt LED's. I have several soft corals, a few LPS, and my only SPS is a PC rainbow acro that seems to be growing nicely.

First time seeing a refugium placed higher than a main display tank. Nothing outrageous but I'm surprised by how I've never considered that myself!
