Some color references for MH 14k, some with XHO. I'm waiting patiently for next July when Hamilton will get some Cozumel Suns back in stock. 2 of those will light my current tank perfectly.

To anyone contemplating going MH with a near standard sized tank 24-30" front to back don't sleep on the ReefBright pendants. They do a great job of resolving the heat "issue" that turn so many away from this lighting source. Well, I should say so many reefers who have no actual experience with MH.

@Smite those halide colors just hit different! So true and real. Then the XHOs make them pop for that fun night time viewing
Exactly, those hybrids are the best of both worlds! I'm actually going to buy mine back from a friend just to have on hand I love the thing so much. I just hopped in your build thread, looking awesome and I may consider going that route with the singles fixtures in the future. I am tempted to hang the 36" 2x250w on my 50x36 and see how it does. My t5 powermodule is sweat but nothing works for me like MH did.

Right side is 250w reefbrite hybrids and left side is Neptune sky.
Cool comparison. Is the difference in color temperature that different in person? I know phones tend to make LED look more blue. Man I miss that shimmer.

It’s actually pretty subtle. I’m thinking of just sticking with the MH now that I’ve seen them side by side. I do like the ramp up/down from the LED but it’s really not worth it for the extra cost. MH is relatively cheap compared to LED.

That's a similar mindset I have as well. If I can tinker I will, so metal halide helped me to know the spectrum is on point, adjust the light for coverage and then watch the corals while I find the right duration.

2 400w 20K metal halides. I have been running them with a Hamilton magnetic ballast for the past 20 years. They’re still going strong but just changed the left side fixture to a new Icecap electronic ballast yesterday and will change the right side tomorrow when it arrives. I will have the Hamilton as a back up.

I'm running a 400 watt 20k Radium with a Sunlight Supply e ballast. Is your Ice-Cap ballast running Radiums? I would like to buy a backup ballast just in case this SLS ballast dies.

That’s without supplementation? What bulb are you running?

Yes, the left 20K Radium is on an Icecap electronic ballast. So far so good after 1 day!
