Hello,

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place!

I just got my first pair of common clownfishes. They are my first ever marine fish (along with a firefish goby and a skunk cleaner shrimp).

This lil dude has a little lesion or bruise on his chin and his gill cover seems abit weird. I tried searching the web to see if anyone has anything similar, but nothing comes up. Are clownfishes gills supposed to look like that? Sharp and jagged, kinda like the rays of a fin.

Also I'm gonna get some meds for this dude and drop him in another tank to medicate him. Was wondering if Paraguard by Seachem was ok?

Any help is much appreciated !

The white rough area on the chin should be viewed with suspicion. Treating with antibiotics now will help the fish to fight off a worse infection (redness, necrosis) of the area. Have had very good results using both Sulfaplex + Neoplex on infections of the head area. Treat for 10-14 days in a QT as antibiotics are very slow acting on fish. If you do not have a QT, can treat as a 30 minute bath.

Here's a thread discussing a similar looking infection that has progressed a bit and is showing redness.

Thanks for the quick reply! Lemme check those two meds out! Sure hope everything will be alright.

Super demotivating having this happen to my first saltwater fish
