Got a really good deal pending on a reef octopus classic 202-s. This too much for. 90 gallon with 40 gal sump?

No not really. I ran my 150 on a 56 gallon column tank for years.

It will allow you to use it if you upgrade to a larger tank in the future.

At minimum, I double the size requirement for my skimmers.
It’s hard to go to big, unless your being just stupid for 5-10 times size.

That is a great skimmer! You didn't mention how heavy or light you expect the bio-load to be, but with a normal or greater bio-load you should be fine to run the #reefoctopus 202-S on a 90g w/ 40g sump.

It’s a brand new build so i haven’t made it that far yet. Once I get it going I’m sure I’ll be all in
