Whats your normal time frame for removing the pump and giving it a scrub down?
I tear mine down once a month regardless.

I do mine about every three month's and run it in a 5 gal. bucket with a 50/50 mix of vinegar/water.

I do it at least 2 times a year. I run the pump in a bucket of vinegar and hot water for 1/3 hour to an hour and then disassemble and clean the inside.

I don't clean the skimmer really because they have coralline growing on the insides all over. Not losing that if it is even able to seed.

Though I clean the collection cups every month or so.

I only cleaned all my skimmers in the past year once, totally. And I have no bad reprocussions from my slothery.xD

I clean the venturi every couple of weeks by running a small drill bit through it. The pump and needlewheel get soaked in undiluted white vinegar every 3 or 4 months or as needed when I notice a drop in production.
The skimmer body gets soaked in vinegar every 6 months or so to remove the built up corraline so the froth flows up the neck to the collection cup more smoothly.
