Hey folks,
My tank finished its cycle a few days ago, and I’ve added some cleanup crew. I added some blue legged hermits, some trochus snails, 1 turbo, 1 strawberry conch, and 1 pencil urchin. So far, the hermits have been doing great, I even caught two of the trading shells today, and the urchin seems fine, but the snails have me a touch worried. They all moved about a little, but have stayed pretty close to where they landed when I put them in. Several are adhering to rocks and glass, and react when touched with my glass cleaner, but aren’t really moving, if that makes sense. The turbo managed to climb a few inches off the sand bed, but fell off after sitting mostly still for a few hours, and the conch moved a few inches before burying, and hasn’t moved since. Should I be alarmed? I’ve heard inverts can be “groggy” for several days after entering a new tank, and the hermits seem mostly fine. I plan to test mag tomorrow and see if that’s too high. Thanks in advance

Are you using recycled live rocks? I might test for copper just to hopefully rule it out as a possibility.

Otherwise, I have no idea what is happening, if anything?

The rock came from a system with plenty of healthy inverts, so it’s not copper from that. All water I used came through my RODI filter too. My only guess is high mag, but I haven’t dosed mag, so I can’t imagine it’s particularly high, but I’m more than sure it’s not copper. Nothing is dead (I took the conch out, sniffed it and poked it, definitely still alive).

I’m glad the conch was not dead. They smell awful when they are dead.

Just tested my stock, and it’s also 1800 (******* ESV) any ideas on how to lower it without tanking my salinity? I have some reef crystals on hand I intend to use to make some new salt, but that’s only gonna lower it so much

Been doing a touch of reading, since this has made me a bit worried, and sources are saying 1800 isn’t too high. I’m adding my first coral (zoanthid) today, and I doubt it’ll have any problems, but could this kill the inverts? Or will they just slowly adjust to the mag? I don’t want to do anything too rash, but I am going on a weekend trip, so I’m doing a wc today either way hahaha

I commonly have snails sit in one spot for days and days. Then suddenly decide to move about.

Probably an inaccurate test result. That’s not really the important test. What is your alkalinity, phosphate, nitrate?

I can test shortly, but been doing a wc with a less powerful salt (reef crystals)
