Hello, can somebody help me to see what is going on with my snowflake eel? I’ve had since 2020 mostly I fed him clams, squid and octopus but about a month and a half ago he decided to escape his aquarium did not find until next day morning put him back in his tank. He has been refusing to eat since then he won’t eat his clams, squid or octopus. He never liked shrimp. Don’t know what to do. I’m scared that he might die from lack of food. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I'm sorry to hear about your eel! I think I saw @littlefoxx fox on recently, or maybe one of the #fishmedic guys may be able to help.

Good luck!!

This is going to be a 50/50 recovery chance to normal eating. They tend to build up their protective slime coat well but based on length of time out of water, the question is how the skin and gills were affected.
They can go for a length of time without a meal but not prolonged.
Can you post a video of eel under white light intensity?
Any blemishes or patches on body?

Another risk is dehydration from being out of water extended time as placing it back in tank after dry period pulls moisture from its body affecting the production of is mucus coat. Best news is if breathing when placed back in water, it has a fair chance to recovery

Does he look like he is losing weight? Its not uncommon for them to go on hunger strikes. My snowflake did that for about a month after she jumped and got injured. You would be really surprised how tough they really are. Is he still poking his head out of his den?

It’s known for these eels to go off feed after jumping out if they got a bit dried out.

I had one go 4 months without eating after jumping. It did finally start up again, but then died a month or so later.

Does the eel look good physically?
