I've been seeing a lot of snowy owls from my house this winter- probably the same one. This time she was in a tree down the street so I went for a closer look and got a half decent photo considered all I have is a cheapo 300mm lens and it was getting dark.

gorgeous animal and great picture :)

Super cool! Never seen one in person. I've heard they've been spotted in the area but they elude me.

When I lived in southern ontario I'd hear about sightings a lot and you'd see them on traffic cameras ect. The only time I ever saw one was at the zoo. When I moved to northern ontario 3 years ago I was going out one day and there was one on a poll directly in front of my house but it flew away as soon as I opened the door. I saw him about 3 more times from inside my house but never again.

This one is a female and I've probably seen her 5 or 6 times once she was in a tree really close to my house. I was joking with my wife that the snowy owls are going to become like bald eagles. We were really excited to see them when we first moved but now when we see them we go "oh it's just another eagle" (thinking it's something else). We even saw one in the summer which is really rare.

It is beyond boring here but every once in a while an interesting animal pops by. A couple of years ago I had a northern saw-whet owl hang out at the side of my house all day.

That's awesome. I'm in northern Virginia now and I know we have owls around because I find pellets, but I haven't seen one. My neighbor says he's got big one that he sees regularly out in his back yard. I do see bald eagles all the time now though, and it's awesome. I was sitting at a stop light on my way to work over the summer and one swooped down into the median, snatched something up, and took off. There's something about predatory birds that's just awe inspiring. I actually work with a guy that is a master falconer (I didn't even know that was a thing) and hunts rabbits and whatnot with dang birds. He bought a new goshawk in the spring as a hatchling and had it in his car at work for like two months so he could go out and feed it strips of chicken every couple of hours. The thing is a stone cold killer now.
