So Far Can't Stand BB

I have set up 3 clown only tanks with one piece of liverock per tank. Don't have any sand in any of them and so far cannot stand the bb. Impossible to keep clean without adding more powerheads, have one koralia per tank. Any tips?

add more flow,what size tanks and what koralia are you running.in my elos mini i have one vortec mp-10 and my BB stays clean.i get one area where detritus builds up and i just suck it up when i do water changes.

All around 30G, don't want to add too much flow cause they are broodstack tanks.

i find that having the pump placed low in the tank helps keep the detritus in suspension for the overflow to pick up so you might want to try that.what koralia are you running?i personally dont think the koralia pumps are good for flow.they just dont seem to move enough water for my taste so IMO they arent the best choice of pump for a BB system.something like a tunze 6025 or 6045 would probably work better for you and they dont cost too much.

to each their own,i have had sandbeds and love BB now.just put some white starboard down to get the sand look.as vegasrick stated all the detritus that builds up on the BB is hiding in the sandbed ;)

i love sandbeds, but went with BB because i love no nitrates and no phosphates MORE :bigsmile:

I love the look of sand, but my lord... after the whole ordeal with my vortech losing it's position, I don't think I ever want to go through that mess again...

Put it simply, snow in a fish tank...

BB is actually really nice once you have a good cluster of coraline algea coating it.
All the brown isn't that pretty but overall, looks pretty.

In 6 months it will be coraline algae Mine is getting nice a Purple. I did not like it at first either But it grows on u

Put some sand in there!!! the detritus is consumed by all the critters in the sand. I never touched my sand bed once to clean in 6 years...:tongue: Got your back!

LEAVE IT BB!I love the BB look in reef tanks,I just added sand though cause my better half wouldnt give up on it!But for breeding,BB is a MUST!

SAND!!!! The clowns will love you for it. I couldnt ever do BB. Its funny people always try and arrange their rocks to make it look natural, then dont put sand in. Like someone said earlier to each their own.
